My Story *
My journey to creating Kindred Guide began long before I enrolled in my end-of-life doula training.
When a close family member was diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer's disease, I witnessed how deeply illness affects an entire family. I watched their spouse and children navigate caregiving, changing roles, difficult decisions, and a healthcare system that often felt overwhelming. It opened my eyes to the reality that families don't just need medical care—they need guidance, support, and someone who can help them navigate the road ahead.
That understanding became deeply personal as I walked alongside another close family member during the final chapter of his life.
As his needs increased, I found myself helping coordinate medications, medical appointments, transportation, paperwork, and countless day-to-day details that often go unseen. After his passing, those responsibilities shifted to funeral planning, financial accounts, paperwork, communicating with banks, inherited retirement accounts, organizing important documents, and helping my family navigate everything that follows a loss.
As I continued supporting the people I love, I found myself helping my grandmother navigate many of the complexities that come with aging. From understanding paperwork and coordinating services to making sense of complicated processes and day-to-day logistics, I saw how quickly these responsibilities could become overwhelming. Even the most independent people can find themselves facing systems that are difficult to understand and even harder to navigate alone.
It was during those experiences that I realized something profound: families are often expected to make some of the biggest decisions of their lives while carrying the weight of grief, uncertainty, and exhaustion.
No one hands you a roadmap. There isn't a single person who explains every step or helps you understand what comes next.
Those experiences inspired me to create Kindred Guide—a place where individuals and families can find compassionate support, practical guidance, and someone to help navigate not only the emotional journey, but the many logistical and administrative challenges that come with it.
Because no one should have to figure it all out alone.
